Guest ensuite bathrooms should be as functional as they are inviting, but this one was overdue for a refresh. With dark shower tiles, a cramped shower space, and an awkwardly long vanity with unusable areas, the design felt dated and inefficient. Our mission was to transform it into a modern, functional space, perfectly suited for its primary user—a teenager.
Optimizing the Layout for Comfort and Usability
To improve the layout, we reimagined the vanity and shower areas. By shortening the overly long vanity, we freed up valuable square footage, allowing us to create a more spacious and comfortable shower. This change not only improved the functionality of the bathroom but also balanced the overall proportions of the space.
Choosing Modern Materials and Finishes
For this remodel, we opted for modern materials and finishes to reflect the personality and needs of a teenager. A white oak vanity brings warmth and texture to the room, while large-format porcelain tiles with a concrete-like appearance were used for the shower walls and main bathroom floor. These tiles add a sleek, contemporary feel and are easy to maintain—perfect for a busy household. To complete the design, we incorporated black plumbing fixtures and hardware. The matte black accents create a striking contrast against the light-colored materials, giving the bathroom a bold and stylish edge.
