Napa Riverfront Fire Rebuild
A Fresh Start with Farmhouse Charm
After an attic fire damaged the upper level of this Napa home, the family saw an opportunity to not just rebuild—but to reimagine their space entirely. With the help of JLM Designs, the home was transformed into a light-filled, modern farmhouse featuring a brand-new second story and thoughtful custom details throughout.
From the start, we knew we wanted the design to reflect a cozy, clean-lined farmhouse aesthetic of the Napa Valley lifestyle, layering texture and warmth. Every inch of the layout was reconsidered, giving the homeowners more functional space, better flow, and the kind of finishes that feel timeless yet personal. We handled everything from house plans and permitting to materials, finishes, and site management—making the process smooth and stress-free during a challenging time.
With the roof needing full replacement, we saw an opportunity to rethink the home’s structure and layout entirely. Rather than rebuilding the old roofline, we designed new vaulted ceilings to bring volume, light, and character into the space. We added faux wood beams and tongue-and-groove paneling to the ceilings—details that instantly warmed up the home and gave it a sense of personality and place.
As part of the remodel, we added extra bedrooms and reworked the floor plan to better suit the family’s needs. One of the most important features of the new design is the connection between indoor and outdoor living. We installed a large bifolding door between the kitchen and outdoor dining area, creating a seamless transition that invites the outside in—perfect for entertaining or enjoying peaceful evenings by the river.
Throughout the home, we layered rustic materials and textures to give the new construction a grounded, lived-in feel. A board-formed concrete fireplace became a central focal point in the living room, while custom wall treatments added depth and visual interest. We balanced these rustic elements with timeless farmhouse staples: Carrara marble countertops, classic white subway tile, and warm wood tones in all the right places.
At JLM Designs, we bring both technical precision and a designer’s eye. Every decision—from the ceiling heights to the cabinet hardware—is made with intention. A well-designed home doesn’t just look beautiful—it works beautifully too. We think through how spaces flow, how people connect, and how your home should feel as you live in it day to day.
And in a project like this—born from something unexpected—it was especially meaningful to help our clients move forward with a fresh, thoughtful design that now truly feels like home..
