Napa Victorian Revival

Breathing Life Into a Half-Finished Home

When our client purchased this beautiful Victorian, it came with more questions than answers. The previous owners had started a renovation—but stopped midway, leaving behind an unfinished maze of construction debris, blank walls, and compromised layout choices. The home had great bones and historical charm, but it needed serious design direction and expertise to make it livable again.
Our client brought us in to help rework the main floor layout and restore the character of the home while bringing it up to modern standards. This wasn’t just a renovation—it was a rescue mission.

Reimagining the Heart of the Home

The kitchen was completely stripped bare. No cabinets. No layout. Just an oversized room filled with potential. Our client envisioned a warm, functional kitchen that felt connected to the rest of the home—especially the adjacent dining room, which still featured stunning original built-ins.

We honored that history by designing a large, open-concept kitchen that flows effortlessly into the dining space. New cabinetry, tailored storage solutions, and modern appliances were introduced—but always with a nod to the home’s era. The materials and finishes were carefully selected to strike a balance between vintage charm and everyday functionality.

Preserving Character, Creating Comfort

From the beginning, preserving the architectural integrity of the home was a top priority. Every design move we made was rooted in that respect—whether it was matching trim details, restoring door casings, or sourcing lighting that felt true to the period.

But we also needed to solve some serious functionality issues.

The home only had one shared hallway bathroom, which wasn’t ideal for a modern homeowner. So we got creative with the floor plan, carving out a brand-new primary suite from a smaller bedroom and unused space. The result is a stunning on-suite retreat that includes a full bathroom, walk-in closet, and a cozy home office nook—proof that thoughtful design can completely transform how a home feels and functions.

One small but impactful change was the front staircase. At some point, a river rock facade had been added—an element that felt completely out of place with the home's Victorian roots. We designed a new exterior staircase that reintroduced historically appropriate details, restoring the home's curb appeal and honoring its original architecture. It’s a subtle shift, but one that makes all the difference in bringing the exterior back to life.

The Outcome

This project is the perfect example of what we love most: taking a space that feels broken and turning it into something beautiful, functional, and cohesive. Now, instead of a half-finished remodel, this Victorian is back to telling a complete story—one of timeless design, thoughtful upgrades, and a homeowner finally at home.

Let us help you design a kitchen you will love to get cook in everyday.
